Chi Hi Alumni Scholarship
The Alumni Scholarship was initiated in 1987, eventually gaining support of enough classes to perpetuate annual funding through alumni class reunion activities. The first scholarships were awarded to two members of the class of 1991.

The Dolores Barnier Education Endowment Fund
The Dolores Barnier Education Endowment Fund was established at Dolores Barnier's direction in 2012. As the food service supervisor for many years within the Chippewa Falls school system, Dolores Barnier had the opportunity to work with kids of all ages in the elementary, middle and high schools. She enjoyed interacting with the students on a daily basis. She created this endowment to provide scholarships to students who needed extra financial help to obtain a higher education.

Chad Bejin Memorial Scholarship
The Chad Bejin Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 after Chad died of leukemia several months before his own graduation. Friend and family members founded this scholarship in his memory.

This scholarship is for a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding involvement and commitment to the Chippewa Falls community.

Irene & Ernie Herrmann Memorial Scholarship
The Irene & Ernie Herrmann Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999. The Herrmanns lived most of their lives in Chippewa Falls and were active in city affairs and in a wide variety of volunteer positions. Irene wrote for the local newspaper - the Chippewa Herald, and through her work, introduced readers to many interesting and accomplished people in the community. Irene and Ernie's son, Fred Herrmann, established this perpetual scholarship fund in 1999.

Carrie Zeitinger Joas Scholarship
The Carrie Zeitinger Joas Scholarship was established by Carrie Joas's son Joseph W. Joas at the time of his death in 2012. Carrie instilled music in all of her children. She and most of her children were fond of classical music and particularly the violin. This scholarship is to be given preferentially to two graduating high school seniors annually who are interested in pursuing a career in music with an emphasis on the violin.

Francis E. Joas Scholarship
The Francis E. Joas Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor the memory of Francis E. Joas. Francis was born in Chippewa Falls in 1900. After receiving his teaching degree in Industrial Arts he took the train from Eau Claire to Kansas City and from there to Arizona in a stage coach. After one year teaching in the Wild West, he moved to San Antonio, TX to teach. There he met the love of his life, Lenora Hardin. They moved Milwaukee, where Francis taught until the age of 75. While there he designed and built a beautiful, hand crafted home and obtained a master's degree from Northwestern University. He was extremely talented and could design and build anything from wood as evidenced by the beautiful detailed drawings and examples he left behind. He was an excellent teacher, passing on so much to his students. This scholarship is awarded to two deserving students from Chippewa Falls Senior High School intending to major in history or economics.

Gerald E. and Susan J. Joas Scholarship
Both Gerald and Susan had deep ties to the Chippewa Falls area and appreciated and respected the cultural, social and economic opportunities that were accessible to them throughout their lives.
Their desire is to see these same opportunities made available to current and future generations through their generous gift of scholarships.

Emmett A. Keller and Paul E. Keller Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Keller Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Paul E. Keller, a member of the Chi Hi Class of 1984, who died in an automobile accident on March 12, 1984. Paul's parents, Emmett and Anne Keller, his sister Sarah and many friends contributed money to establish this scholarship in his memory.

William Lea Memorial Scholarship
The William Lea Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. William Lea of Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Lea graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1927. After working in his father's bakery for two years, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating in 1933 and earning a doctorate in Chemistry in 1940. He became a professor at the University for several years and then joined the Wisconsin State Board of Health as an engineer. He eventually became the Director of Industrial Hygiene with the Board of Health. He developed the process to remove the phosphorus from sewage effluent to reduce algae growth in the lakes and streams of Wisconsin. He also was involved with measuring and reducing air pollution, radioactive fallout, and many other endeavors with the State Board of Health. Dr. Lea died in Madison, Wisconsin in May 1991 at the age of 82.

Robert and Beverly Peterson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was started by the children of Robert and Beverly Peterson after Beverly’s death in 2013. Robert had died in 1996. Bob and Bev married in 1947 and lived and farmed in Hallie for most of their lives. They had five children, all of whom graduated from Chi-Hi, as did Bob himself in 1941. Music was a big part of their family; Bev played piano and worked with 4-H music festivals for decades, while Bob sang with the Eau Claire Male Chorus and the church choir. They were also actively involved in the Chi Hi music program as three of their children participated in Choir, Show Choir, Madrigals, Jazz Band, musicals and Solo and Ensemble.

The Clarence and Viola Zwiefelhofer Cardinal Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is in memory of Clarence and Viola Zwiefelhofer. While neither had he opportunity to attend college, they ran a successful dairy farm in ilden, providing life-long learning for their children and grandchildren on the importance of hard work, determination and living life without regrets or wondering what might have been. Clarence had to drop out of school to run the family farm after his father died in a tragic farming accident. Viola was a graduate of he Chi-Hi class of 1939, graduating 9th in a class of 149 with a 91.5 GPA. This scholarship is named in their memory and Viola's life-long love of cardinals.

The Francis Ackert-Howard Elliott Scholarship
The Ackert-Elliott Scholarship was established in 2002. Mr. Ackert and Mr. Elliott were both long time Instrumental Music teachers in Chippewa Falls and remained active in the field after their retirement. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is currently participating in and has exhibited outstanding musicianship in instrumental music and is planning to major in music. Applicants must have maintained a high scholastic standard in high school and must have exhibited good citizenship, personality and attitude. The cash award will be issued after the student has completed one semester of study with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Harriet "Ma" Averill Vocal Scholarship was established in May 1979 to honor Harriet Averill, a vocal music instructor in Chippewa Falls from 1928 until her retirement in 1969.

George and Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship
The Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of Irene Glickman Gintz, who taught English at Chippewa Falls and Bloomer High Schools. The Gintz children added the name of their father, George Wallace Gintz, to the scholarship after his death in 1995. George Gintz initiated the creation of the Chippewa Falls School Foundation when he established the Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship.

The Greenhalgh Love of Band Scholarship
The Greenhalgh Love of Band Scholarship is named for the spirit embodied by band director Doug Greenhalgh. The successful applicant will be someone diligent in practice, who is helpful, and who really loves what band is about.

Write an essay in which you describe your band experience, including the bands and performances in which you participated, and how you did the best you could for the band(s) you loved.
Lenora Hardin Joas Scholarship
The Lenora Hardin Joas Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor the memory of Lenora Hardin Joas. Lenora Hardin grew up on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country close to Willow City, TX, which is now a ghost town. She grew up with President Lyndon B Johnson, who was raised on a nearby ranch. Lenora earned a degree in music and has a music room named in her honor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX. She married Chippewa Falls native Francis Joas in San Antonio. They moved Milwaukee, where Francis taught until the age of 75. This scholarship is awarded to two deserving music students from Chippewa Falls Senior High School.

The Christopher & Kristina Kolinski Foundation Scholarship
Kristina began teaching Spanish at Chi Hi in 2006, and the rest of the family moved to Chippewa Falls in 2009. Chris and Kristina were both student athletes and musicians in high school while maintaining honor roll status for all 4 years. This scholarship is intended for a student who takes education seriously in addition to balancing participation in extracurricular activities. This foundation’s scholarship was created to help support and encourage hard working students like this to pursue a post-secondary degree.
The recipient is attending a 2- or 4-year college, with preference given to those who have participated in both extra-curricular activities (sports and/or music) while maintaining a 3.2 GPA or higher in high school. Additional preference given to candidates who are pursuing a degree in education or a business-related field.

Paul Roth Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Roth Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Paul A. Roth, a member of the Chi-Hi class of 2003, who died of meningitis on April 26th, 2002. Paul was a drummer and performer in the Chi-Hi Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Harmonics Show Choir and the Chippewa County 4-H Chirpers Show Choir. Paul's love for music and his love for life touched many people and that gift should continue.

The Troop 3055 Memorial Scholarship
Many donations were received after a crash that killed 3 Girl Scouts and a mother on November 3rd, 2018. (Jayna Kelley, Autumn Helgeson, Haylee Hickle and Sara Jo Schneider). The money is to be given back to the community each year in the form of a scholarship to one recipient to use toward higher education.
Criteria:
Applicant must complete an essay stating how their involvement in Girl Scouts helped them be the person they are today and how he or she intends to use those qualities in their higher education.
Sra. Volker Spanish Scholarship
The Sra. Volker Spanish Scholarship was established in 2011 by Sra. Sheila Volker, who started the Spanish program at the CFMS in 1977 and taught there for 25 years. She believes that foreign language study enables students to understand their own language better and exposes students to different cultures. Knowledge of a foreign language can also improve employment opportunity.

This scholarship was established in 2000 by the estate of Grace Walsh in memory of John Dahl, Bill Ritzinger and Howard Hoveland. The scholarship is to be awarded for debate/original speaking.

The Chippewa Valley High School Scholarship in Memory of James Keating Hadlock
The Chippewa Valley High School Scholarship was established in memory of James Keating Hadlock, a member of the Chi Hi class of 2002 who died in an automobile accident on August 25, 2004 on his way to work. James attended Chippewa Valley High School his senior year of high school where he successfully completed his high school coursework. James' parents, grandparents, many friends, colleagues and community members contributed money to establish this scholarship in his memory.

Nola Cook taught Middle School Science in the Chippewa Falls School District for over 30 years. Nola had a love of the Sciences as well as the students she taught. Nola would hope that this scholarship would help future students fulfill their dreams.

The scholarship name honors Curt Herzstark whose inventive spirit and idea for a new small hand-cranked calculator kept him alive in a Nazi concentration camp. The calculator first appeared in 1948 and for two decades the Curta was the best portable calculator in the world.

George E. and Peggy W. Fleming Science Scholarship
George and Peggy Fleming established this scholarship in 1993. George and Peggy came to the Chippewa Falls area in the early 1980's. They both were born (George in 1944 and Peggy in 1949) and grew up in the Chicago area. They both had always dreamed of living "up north" after vacationing in Wisconsin as children. George is an orthopedic surgeon and Peggy has a general business degree and is also a registered nurse. They value education very highly and wish to encourage the young people in Chippewa Falls to continue their education after high school. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student pursuing a career in a science field.

This scholarship was established in memory of Joie Hertzfeld. Known as "Mr. H", he taught art at the CFMS for 35 years, working with over 12,000 students. He was an upbeat influence to three generations of students. This scholarship aims to help a student pursue a degree in art or creative design in memory of Joie's legacy of functional art and useful, everyday beauty.
This is a scholarship for students intending to major in Art or a Creative Design Field at a four year college or technical school. Art is defined as: a non-music major, but could include: a fine arts degree (non-music), graphic art, architecture, landscape or interior design, woodworking, ceramics, metal work, sculpture, art history, art restoration, or other related creative functional art fields at the discretion of the CFAUSDF Committee.

The applicant must submit an essay on the topic of: What goals I have related to seeking a degree in the field of art or related to an intended major in a creative design field.

The Kerri Nelson Memorial Scholarship
The Kerri Nelson Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kerri Nelson, a Chi Hi graduate in the class of 1981, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Kerri was an avid artist, photographer, and writer. She was most at home in the outdoors and loved to experience new places. In her travels throughout the world, Kerri's sense of adventure, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with people created long-lasting friendships and a passion for helping those in need.
Kerri passed away at the age of 32 from a brain tumor. In honor of Kerri's creative spirit, her father, Robert Nelson, and sisters, Kristin and Lauren, created this scholarship in her name.

The Viles-Kehl Scholarship
The Viles-Kehl Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of the Viles and Kehl families by a descendant, Dorothy V. Jacobsen, of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Mr. Viles and Mr. Kehl were influential business leaders in Chippewa Falls in the early 1900's. John Kehl was born in Schwabsburg, Germany in 1837. He moved to Chippewa Falls in 1874 with his wife Susannah (Wright). He built the Glen Mills at the present site of the Glen Loch Dam. He was involved in the manufacturing of boots and shoes through the Hand Made Shoe Manufacturing Company as well and was characterized as having standards of uprightness. John and Susannah had one son, Frederick Kehl and two daughters, Jessica and Ida. Ida Kehl married W.M. Bowie and lived in the house at 321 Carson Street. Jessica Kehl married Bradford Dagget Viles in 1885 in Chippewa Falls and in 1886 they built their home at 506 West Willow. Bradford Viles was born in 1863 in Maine. His father, Joseph Viles, was prominent in the lumbering industry. Bradford Viles became President of the Chippew River Land Company (a timber and logging business) and was also active in the banking business as Vice President of the First National Bank. Jessica and Bradford Viles had four children: sons Milford Clair and Ralph and daughters Jo and Maurita.

Minnie I. Zenz Elementary Education Scholarship
Minnie (Min) grew up in Durand and Cornell and then graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in Elementary Education. She spent 26 of her 31 years of teaching in Chippewa Falls Public Schools. Min enjoyed meeting many of her former students as adults, often attending their wedding receptions and other festive occasions. This scholarship was established after her death in April 2011 at 100 years of age.

Vera & Walter Hogseth Family Badger Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Vera and Walter Hogseth and their strong belief in college education. Walter was a 1924 Chi Hi graduate and attended the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Their children (John, Mary, Steve, Bob and Mark) all graduated from Chi Hi between 1957 and 1971. Since four of their children went on to graduate from UW—Madison, the family feels it is appropriate to help fellow Chi Hi alumni become future UW—Madison alumni. Grandchildren of Vera and Walter were continuing the Cardinal-Badger connection in 2005, when this scholarship was established. The Hogseth family congratulates the scholarship recipient and wishes her/him great success in Madison.

- Student must attend an accredited university, college or technical school.

She enjoyed interacting with the students on a daily basis. She created this endowment to provide scholarships to students who needed extra financial help to obtain a higher education.

Chad Bejin Memorial Scholarship
The Chad Bejin Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 after Chad died of leukemia several months before his own graduation. Friend and family members founded this scholarship in his memory.

Cardinal Spirit Scholarship
This scholarship is for a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding involvement and commitment to the Chippewa Falls community.

- Demonstration of community service.
- Essay describing personal view of community involvement.

Irene & Ernie Herrmann Memorial Scholarship
The Irene & Ernie Herrmann Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999. The Herrmanns lived most of their lives in Chippewa Falls and were active in city affairs and in a wide variety of volunteer positions. Irene wrote for the local newspaper - the Chippewa Herald, and through her work, introduced readers to many interesting and accomplished people in the community. Irene and Ernie's son, Fred Herrmann, established this perpetual scholarship fund in 1999.

- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
- Applicant must be pursuing a four-year degree.
Carrie Zeitinger Joas Scholarship
The Carrie Zeitinger Joas Scholarship was established by Carrie Joas's son Joseph W. Joas at the time of his death in 2012. Carrie instilled music in all of her children. She and most of her children were fond of classical music and particularly the violin. This scholarship is to be given preferentially to two graduating high school seniors annually who are interested in pursuing a career in music with an emphasis on the violin.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduating Chippewa Falls High School senior
- Preference will be given to students planning to pursue a career in music with an emphasis on the violin.
- If there are no applicants with intention of pursuing a career in music with an emphasis on the violin, students planning to pursue a music major or music education major will be considered, followed by students currently studying/playing the violin, followed by students participating in the Chippewa Falls High School music program.
- If no applicant with any music connection, scholarships should be given to deserving applicants in any field.
Francis E. Joas Scholarship
The Francis E. Joas Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor the memory of Francis E. Joas. Francis was born in Chippewa Falls in 1900. After receiving his teaching degree in Industrial Arts he took the train from Eau Claire to Kansas City and from there to Arizona in a stage coach. After one year teaching in the Wild West, he moved to San Antonio, TX to teach. There he met the love of his life, Lenora Hardin. They moved Milwaukee, where Francis taught until the age of 75. While there he designed and built a beautiful, hand crafted home and obtained a master's degree from Northwestern University. He was extremely talented and could design and build anything from wood as evidenced by the beautiful detailed drawings and examples he left behind. He was an excellent teacher, passing on so much to his students. This scholarship is awarded to two deserving students from Chippewa Falls Senior High School intending to major in history or economics.
Criteria:
- Applicant must intend to major in history or economics.
- If there are no applicants meeting the above criteria, the best qualified applicant that comes closest to meeting the criteria should be chosen by the CFAUSDF board.
- Applicant should plan to attend a 4 year college or university.
Gerald E. and Susan J. Joas Scholarship
Both Gerald and Susan had deep ties to the Chippewa Falls area and appreciated and respected the cultural, social and economic opportunities that were accessible to them throughout their lives.
Their desire is to see these same opportunities made available to current and future generations through their generous gift of scholarships.

- Applicant must be motivated to further educational pursuits.
- Student must attend a college, university, or technical/vocational school.
- Applicant must submit renewal paperwork after successfully completing their first year to receive the second half of the scholarship.
Emmett A. Keller and Paul E. Keller Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Keller Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Paul E. Keller, a member of the Chi Hi Class of 1984, who died in an automobile accident on March 12, 1984. Paul's parents, Emmett and Anne Keller, his sister Sarah and many friends contributed money to establish this scholarship in his memory.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be in the top 25% of his/her graduating class.
- Applicant must take part in extra-curricular and community activities.
- Applicant must be planning to attend a four-year college or university.
- Financial need should not be a major consideration.
William Lea Memorial Scholarship
The William Lea Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. William Lea of Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Lea graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1927. After working in his father's bakery for two years, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating in 1933 and earning a doctorate in Chemistry in 1940. He became a professor at the University for several years and then joined the Wisconsin State Board of Health as an engineer. He eventually became the Director of Industrial Hygiene with the Board of Health. He developed the process to remove the phosphorus from sewage effluent to reduce algae growth in the lakes and streams of Wisconsin. He also was involved with measuring and reducing air pollution, radioactive fallout, and many other endeavors with the State Board of Health. Dr. Lea died in Madison, Wisconsin in May 1991 at the age of 82.

- Applicant must have attained high personal achievement and academic excellence.
- Applicants may reapply each year (up to three years) for the Lea Scholarship.
- They must apply by letter accompanied by a recent college transcript and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. The letter must be sent to the CFAUSDF at PO Box 981, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 by July 1 of each year they reapply. No notices will be sent!
Robert and Beverly Peterson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was started by the children of Robert and Beverly Peterson after Beverly’s death in 2013. Robert had died in 1996. Bob and Bev married in 1947 and lived and farmed in Hallie for most of their lives. They had five children, all of whom graduated from Chi-Hi, as did Bob himself in 1941. Music was a big part of their family; Bev played piano and worked with 4-H music festivals for decades, while Bob sang with the Eau Claire Male Chorus and the church choir. They were also actively involved in the Chi Hi music program as three of their children participated in Choir, Show Choir, Madrigals, Jazz Band, musicals and Solo and Ensemble.

The Clarence and Viola Zwiefelhofer Cardinal Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is in memory of Clarence and Viola Zwiefelhofer. While neither had he opportunity to attend college, they ran a successful dairy farm in ilden, providing life-long learning for their children and grandchildren on the importance of hard work, determination and living life without regrets or wondering what might have been. Clarence had to drop out of school to run the family farm after his father died in a tragic farming accident. Viola was a graduate of he Chi-Hi class of 1939, graduating 9th in a class of 149 with a 91.5 GPA. This scholarship is named in their memory and Viola's life-long love of cardinals.

The Francis Ackert-Howard Elliott Scholarship
The Ackert-Elliott Scholarship was established in 2002. Mr. Ackert and Mr. Elliott were both long time Instrumental Music teachers in Chippewa Falls and remained active in the field after their retirement. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is currently participating in and has exhibited outstanding musicianship in instrumental music and is planning to major in music. Applicants must have maintained a high scholastic standard in high school and must have exhibited good citizenship, personality and attitude. The cash award will be issued after the student has completed one semester of study with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

- Applicant must be a senior participating in instrumental music at Chi Hi.
- Applicant must be planning to major in music or music education.
- Applicant must have maintained a high scholastic standard in high school.
- Applicant must have exhibited good citizenship, personality and attitude.
- Applicant must have exhibited outstanding musicianship.
- Applicant must be qualified to carry on the best traditions of the instrumental music department of Chippewa Falls High School.
- If no worthy candidate (as defined by items 1-6) is available from a specific graduating class, then no award will be given to a graduating senior.
- In the event that no worthy candidate is identified from the current graduating class, the scholarship may, at the discretion of the selection committee, be awarded to a former Chi Hi student who is currently enrolled in post high school music study.
The Harriet "Ma" Averill Vocal Scholarship
The Harriet "Ma" Averill Vocal Scholarship was established in May 1979 to honor Harriet Averill, a vocal music instructor in Chippewa Falls from 1928 until her retirement in 1969.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
- Applicant must have shown a strong interest in vocal music, in school and in the community. This would include participating in madrigals or school musicals. Solo work with the choir or chorus in the church or school is also considered for this scholarship.
- Applicant's grade point alone is not a criterion, nor is financial need.
- Applicant must plan on attending a four-year university or college.
- Preference will be given to an individual whose plans include a college major of vocal music.
George and Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship
The Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of Irene Glickman Gintz, who taught English at Chippewa Falls and Bloomer High Schools. The Gintz children added the name of their father, George Wallace Gintz, to the scholarship after his death in 1995. George Gintz initiated the creation of the Chippewa Falls School Foundation when he established the Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School who has attained outstanding achievement in English.
- Applicant may have demonstrated significant improvement, may have faced unusual challenges, or may have a more traditional record of academic achievement.
- Grade point alone is not a criterion, nor is financial need.
- The recipient must be planning to attend either a university or a technical college.

The Greenhalgh Love of Band Scholarship
The Greenhalgh Love of Band Scholarship is named for the spirit embodied by band director Doug Greenhalgh. The successful applicant will be someone diligent in practice, who is helpful, and who really loves what band is about.
Criteria:
- Applicant must plan on attending a technical college or four-year college program, but need not be pursuing a music degree.
- An essay is required which describes the applicant's entire band experience, including the bands and performances in which the applicant participated, and how the applicant did the best he/she could for the band/bands he/ she loved.

Lenora Hardin Joas Scholarship
The Lenora Hardin Joas Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor the memory of Lenora Hardin Joas. Lenora Hardin grew up on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country close to Willow City, TX, which is now a ghost town. She grew up with President Lyndon B Johnson, who was raised on a nearby ranch. Lenora earned a degree in music and has a music room named in her honor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX. She married Chippewa Falls native Francis Joas in San Antonio. They moved Milwaukee, where Francis taught until the age of 75. This scholarship is awarded to two deserving music students from Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
Criteria:
- Involvement in music programs is required.
- Intended major in music is preferred.
The Christopher & Kristina Kolinski Foundation Scholarship
Kristina began teaching Spanish at Chi Hi in 2006, and the rest of the family moved to Chippewa Falls in 2009. Chris and Kristina were both student athletes and musicians in high school while maintaining honor roll status for all 4 years. This scholarship is intended for a student who takes education seriously in addition to balancing participation in extracurricular activities. This foundation’s scholarship was created to help support and encourage hard working students like this to pursue a post-secondary degree.
The recipient is attending a 2- or 4-year college, with preference given to those who have participated in both extra-curricular activities (sports and/or music) while maintaining a 3.2 GPA or higher in high school. Additional preference given to candidates who are pursuing a degree in education or a business-related field.

- Applicant must have participated in the music program (Band, Choir, Orchestra) for 4 years.
- Applicant must have taken two or more AP or transcripted credit classes.

Paul Roth Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Roth Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Paul A. Roth, a member of the Chi-Hi class of 2003, who died of meningitis on April 26th, 2002. Paul was a drummer and performer in the Chi-Hi Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Harmonics Show Choir and the Chippewa County 4-H Chirpers Show Choir. Paul's love for music and his love for life touched many people and that gift should continue.

The Troop 3055 Memorial Scholarship
Many donations were received after a crash that killed 3 Girl Scouts and a mother on November 3rd, 2018. (Jayna Kelley, Autumn Helgeson, Haylee Hickle and Sara Jo Schneider). The money is to be given back to the community each year in the form of a scholarship to one recipient to use toward higher education.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
- Applicate must have been in the Girl Scout program at some point in their life. (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior or Ambassador).
- Girl Scout involvement need not have been in the Chippewa Falls School District.
Applicant must complete an essay stating how their involvement in Girl Scouts helped them be the person they are today and how he or she intends to use those qualities in their higher education.
Sra. Volker Spanish Scholarship
The Sra. Volker Spanish Scholarship was established in 2011 by Sra. Sheila Volker, who started the Spanish program at the CFMS in 1977 and taught there for 25 years. She believes that foreign language study enables students to understand their own language better and exposes students to different cultures. Knowledge of a foreign language can also improve employment opportunity.
Criteria:
- Applicant must have completed one full year of 8th grade Spanish at the CFMS.
- Applicant must also continue taking Spanish through 4 years at Chi Hi, for a total of 5 years of Spanish study.
- GPA between 3.0 and 4.0.
- No separate essay is required, as the general essay is sufficient. Attention will be paid to a well written general essay.
The Grace Walsh Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2000 by the estate of Grace Walsh in memory of John Dahl, Bill Ritzinger and Howard Hoveland. The scholarship is to be awarded for debate/original speaking.

The Chippewa Valley High School Scholarship was established in memory of James Keating Hadlock, a member of the Chi Hi class of 2002 who died in an automobile accident on August 25, 2004 on his way to work. James attended Chippewa Valley High School his senior year of high school where he successfully completed his high school coursework. Nola Cook Science Scholarship
Nola Cook taught Middle School Science in the Chippewa Falls School District for over 30 years. Nola had a love of the Sciences as well as the students she taught. Nola would hope that this scholarship would help future students fulfill their dreams.

- Students must be choosing a course of study in the Sciences.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Students should be involved in activities outside of the classroom. (sports, music and/or nonprofit activities)
Curta Calculator Scholarship
The scholarship name honors Curt Herzstark whose inventive spirit and idea for a new small hand-cranked calculator kept him alive in a Nazi concentration camp. The calculator first appeared in 1948 and for two decades the Curta was the best portable calculator in the world.

- Declared major in computer science, physics, mathematics and/or philosophy.

George E. and Peggy W. Fleming Science Scholarship
George and Peggy Fleming established this scholarship in 1993. George and Peggy came to the Chippewa Falls area in the early 1980's. They both were born (George in 1944 and Peggy in 1949) and grew up in the Chicago area. They both had always dreamed of living "up north" after vacationing in Wisconsin as children. George is an orthopedic surgeon and Peggy has a general business degree and is also a registered nurse. They value education very highly and wish to encourage the young people in Chippewa Falls to continue their education after high school. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student pursuing a career in a science field.

- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
- Applicant must have maintained a 3.0 GPA or better throughout high school.
- Applicant must be pursuing a four-year field of study in the field of science, which could include engineering, Chemistry, Physics, medicine, mathematics or life science.
Joie Hertzfeld Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Joie Hertzfeld. Known as "Mr. H", he taught art at the CFMS for 35 years, working with over 12,000 students. He was an upbeat influence to three generations of students. This scholarship aims to help a student pursue a degree in art or creative design in memory of Joie's legacy of functional art and useful, everyday beauty.
This is a scholarship for students intending to major in Art or a Creative Design Field at a four year college or technical school. Art is defined as: a non-music major, but could include: a fine arts degree (non-music), graphic art, architecture, landscape or interior design, woodworking, ceramics, metal work, sculpture, art history, art restoration, or other related creative functional art fields at the discretion of the CFAUSDF Committee.
Criteria:
- An art or creative design major, as defined above.
- The applicant should have taken at least 1 class, as documented on their submitted transcript, in art, art metals, woodshop, Unified Services, or other art related classes as interpreted by the CFAUSDF Committee.
- The student should have a GPA between 3.2 – 3.8.
- Four year or technical college eligible. Preference will be given to a student planning to pursue an art major at UW Stout.
The applicant must submit an essay on the topic of: What goals I have related to seeking a degree in the field of art or related to an intended major in a creative design field.

This scholarship was established in November of 1999 by the family of Helen and Dewey Huber in recognition of their lifelong commitment to the young people of the Chippewa Falls school district. Gwen Leifheit worked as an R.N. for over 45 years, most of it at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls. She loved the profession of nursing.

Morrie's Moving Life Forward Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Morrie’s, who believes in supporting the community that supports them. This scholarship is awarded to students intending to pursue a degree in business/entrepreneurial studies in a two or four year program.

- Applicant must be interested in business/entrepreneurial studies.

The Kerri Nelson Memorial Scholarship
The Kerri Nelson Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kerri Nelson, a Chi Hi graduate in the class of 1981, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Kerri was an avid artist, photographer, and writer. She was most at home in the outdoors and loved to experience new places. In her travels throughout the world, Kerri's sense of adventure, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with people created long-lasting friendships and a passion for helping those in need.
Kerri passed away at the age of 32 from a brain tumor. In honor of Kerri's creative spirit, her father, Robert Nelson, and sisters, Kristin and Lauren, created this scholarship in her name.
Criteria:
- Planning to attend a 2 year technical school or 4 year college.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Involvement in extracurricular activities during high school.
- Preference to be given to the student pursuing a degree in journalism or an art-related field.

Robert and Beverly Peterson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was started by the children of Robert and Beverly Peterson after Beverly’s death in 2013. Robert had died in 1996. Bob and Bev married in 1947 and lived and farmed in Hallie for most of their lives. They had five children, all of whom graduated from Chi-Hi, as did Bob himself in 1941. Music was a big part of their family; Bev played piano and worked with 4-H music festivals for decades, while Bob sang with the Eau Claire Male Chorus and the church choir. They were also actively involved in the Chi Hi music program as three of their children participated in Choir, Show Choir, Madrigals, Jazz Band, musicals and Solo and Ensemble.
Criteria:
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Music major or minor preferred.
- Planning to attend a 4 year college.
- Involvement in extracurricular activities during high school.
- Preference to be given to the student with involvement in music outside of school, participation in Harmonics and/or to students who grew up on farms or have been involved in farming.
The Viles-Kehl Scholarship
The Viles-Kehl Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of the Viles and Kehl families by a descendant, Dorothy V. Jacobsen, of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Mr. Viles and Mr. Kehl were influential business leaders in Chippewa Falls in the early 1900's. John Kehl was born in Schwabsburg, Germany in 1837. He moved to Chippewa Falls in 1874 with his wife Susannah (Wright). He built the Glen Mills at the present site of the Glen Loch Dam. He was involved in the manufacturing of boots and shoes through the Hand Made Shoe Manufacturing Company as well and was characterized as having standards of uprightness. John and Susannah had one son, Frederick Kehl and two daughters, Jessica and Ida. Ida Kehl married W.M. Bowie and lived in the house at 321 Carson Street. Jessica Kehl married Bradford Dagget Viles in 1885 in Chippewa Falls and in 1886 they built their home at 506 West Willow. Bradford Viles was born in 1863 in Maine. His father, Joseph Viles, was prominent in the lumbering industry. Bradford Viles became President of the Chippew River Land Company (a timber and logging business) and was also active in the banking business as Vice President of the First National Bank. Jessica and Bradford Viles had four children: sons Milford Clair and Ralph and daughters Jo and Maurita.

- Applicant should be planning a career in the natural resource category: environmental studies, wildlife management, water conservation or soil management.
- If no one qualified based on the above majors, students interested in engineering should be considered as candidates for this scholarship.
- Applicant should have a strong GPA.
- Applicant must be planning to attend a four-year college or university.
- Applicant should be involved in some school and/or community activities.
Minnie I. Zenz Elementary Education Scholarship
Minnie (Min) grew up in Durand and Cornell and then graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in Elementary Education. She spent 26 of her 31 years of teaching in Chippewa Falls Public Schools. Min enjoyed meeting many of her former students as adults, often attending their wedding receptions and other festive occasions. This scholarship was established after her death in April 2011 at 100 years of age.

Vera & Walter Hogseth Family Badger Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Vera and Walter Hogseth and their strong belief in college education. Walter was a 1924 Chi Hi graduate and attended the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Their children (John, Mary, Steve, Bob and Mark) all graduated from Chi Hi between 1957 and 1971. Since four of their children went on to graduate from UW—Madison, the family feels it is appropriate to help fellow Chi Hi alumni become future UW—Madison alumni. Grandchildren of Vera and Walter were continuing the Cardinal-Badger connection in 2005, when this scholarship was established. The Hogseth family congratulates the scholarship recipient and wishes her/him great success in Madison.

- Applicant must have maintained at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
- Applicant must attend University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Mary Ellen Heian Schmider Scholarship Award was established in 2000 by Mary Ellen Heian Schmider.

- Applicant must show commitment to community and church.
- Applicant must attend one of the nation's Lutheran Colleges.

The Dolores Barnier Education Endowment Fund
The Dolores Barnier Education Endowment Fund was established at Dolores Barnier's direction in 2012. As the food service supervisor for many years within the Chippewa Falls school system, Dolores Barnier had the opportunity to work with kids of all ages in the elementary, middle and high schools. She enjoyed interacting with the students on a daily basis. She created this endowment to provide scholarships to students who needed extra financial help to obtain a higher education.
Criteria:
- Senior graduating from Chippewa Falls High School with plan to pursue further education at a 4 year college or university or a 2 year technical college or continuing education program.
- Has involvement in school and community
- Has demonstrated leadership potential
- GPA of 3.75 or less
- Has had previous work experience (paid or volunteer)
Chi Hi Alumni Scholarship
The Alumni Scholarship was initiated in 1987, eventually gaining support of enough classes to perpetuate annual funding through alumni class reunion activities. The first scholarships were awarded to two members of the class of 1991.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
- Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.
- Student must attend an accredited university, college or technical school.
George and Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship
The Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of Irene Glickman Gintz, who taught English at Chippewa Falls and Bloomer High Schools. The Gintz children added the name of their father, George Wallace Gintz, to the scholarship after his death in 1995. George Gintz initiated the creation of the Chippewa Falls School Foundation when he established the Irene Glickman Gintz Scholarship.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School who has attained outstanding achievement in English.
- Applicant may have demonstrated significant improvement, may have faced unusual challenges, or may have a more traditional record of academic achievement.
- Grade point alone is not a criterion, nor is financial need.
- The recipient must be planning to attend either a university or a technical college.
Notes: Applicant is chosen by the Chi Hi English Department.
This scholarship does not require an application.
The Greenhalgh Love of Band Scholarship
The Greenhalgh Love of Band Scholarship is named for the spirit embodied by band director Doug Greenhalgh. The successful applicant will be someone diligent in practice, who is helpful, and who really loves what band is about.
Criteria:
- Applicant must plan on attending a technical college or four-year college program, but need not be pursuing a music degree.
- An essay is required which describes the applicant's entire band experience, including the bands and performances in which the applicant participated, and how the applicant did the best he/she could for the band/bands he/ she loved.
Write an essay in which you describe your band experience, including the bands and performances in which you participated, and how you did the best you could for the band(s) you loved.
Joie Hertzfeld Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Joie Hertzfeld. Known as "Mr. H", he taught art at the CFMS for 35 years, working with over 12,000 students. He was an upbeat influence to three generations of students. This scholarship aims to help a student pursue a degree in art or creative design in memory of Joie's legacy of functional art and useful, everyday beauty.
This is a scholarship for students intending to major in Art or a Creative Design Field at a four year college or technical school. Art is defined as: a non-music major, but could include: a fine arts degree (non-music), graphic art, architecture, landscape or interior design, woodworking, ceramics, metal work, sculpture, art history, art restoration, or other related creative functional art fields at the discretion of the CFAUSDF Committee.
Criteria:
- An art or creative design major, as defined above.
- The applicant should have taken at least 1 class, as documented on their submitted transcript, in art, art metals, woodshop, Unified Services, or other art related classes as interpreted by the CFAUSDF Committee.
- The student should have a GPA between 3.2 – 3.8.
- Four year or technical college eligible. Preference will be given to a student planning to pursue an art major at UW Stout.
The applicant must submit an essay on the topic of: What goals I have related to seeking a degree in the field of art or related to an intended major in a creative design field.
Gerald E. and Susan J. Joas Scholarship
Both Gerald and Susan had deep ties to the Chippewa Falls area and appreciated and respected the cultural, social and economic opportunities that were accessible to them throughout their lives.
Their desire is to see these same opportunities made available to current and future generations through their generous gift of scholarships.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be motivated to further educational pursuits.
- Student must attend a college, university, or technical/vocational school.
- Applicant must submit renewal paperwork after successfully completing their first year to receive the second half of the scholarship.
Morrie's Moving Life Forward Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Morrie’s, who believes in supporting the community that supports them. This scholarship is awarded to students intending to pursue a degree in business/entrepreneurial studies in a two or four year program.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
- Applicant must be interested in business/entrepreneurial studies.
- Applicant may be attending a two or four year college program.
The Kerri Nelson Memorial Scholarship
The Kerri Nelson Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Karri Nelson, a Chi Hi graduate in the class of 1981, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kerri was an avid artist, photographer, and writer. She was most at home in the outdoors and loved to experience new places. In her travels throughout the world, Kerri's sense of adventure, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with people created long-lasting friendships and a passion for helping those in need. Paul Roth Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Roth Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Paul A. Roth, a member of the Chi-Hi class of 2003, who died of meningitis on April 26th, 2002. Paul was a drummer and performer in the Chi-Hi Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Harmonics Show Choir and the Chippewa County 4-H Chirpers Show Choir. Paul's love for music and his love for life touched many people and that gift should continue.
Criteria:
- Applicant must participate in extra-curricular and community activities.
- Applicant must be planning to attend a four-year college, university or a two-year technical school.
- Applicant must have been a member of the Chippewa Falls Senior High School music program.
